If each ring you bite off is pure candy, won't that make the surface of the pencil get sticky over time as bits of sugar dissolve in the sweat/oil/etc where your hand touches the pencil to hold it?

Not necessarily, if the surface of the candy is glazed so it's not hygroscopic it shouldn't get sticky.
